Within the framework of the CAPAGE project, an online academic manual compiling the contents and resources developed throughout the project has been created and made available to support education and training in ageing and health care.
The manual “Healthy Aging and Geriatric Education” brings together educational and scientific materials from the project “Promoting academic and professional excellence in health care to meet the challenges of aging in Sri Lanka” (101127234-CAPAGE-ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE), co-funded by the European Union, and is intended for academics, students and healthcare professionals involved in initial and continuing education.
From a curricular perspective, the manual is organised into eight teaching modules/courses, designed according to a competency-based progression model. The modules address key areas such as health literacy and digital health, healthy ageing, multidimensional geriatric assessment, community-based care for older adults, and clinical practice in geriatrics. Each module includes clearly defined learning outcomes, structured syllabi, teaching and learning methodologies, learning activities, supporting resources, and professional competency frameworks, enabling direct integration into undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, continuing professional development programmes, and clinical training contexts.
The manual is available online and represents a structured, transferable pedagogical tool, supporting the enhancement of academic quality and professional training in ageing-related health care.
The CAPAGE project runs from 2024 to 2027 and is based on an international partnership involving four European universities: FH JOANNEUM Graz University of Applied Sciences (Austria), JAMK University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Santa Maria Health School (Portugal), and the University of A Coruña (Spain); and six universities in Sri Lanka: Eastern University Sri Lanka, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, University of Colombo, University of Jaffna, University of Peradeniya, and University of Ruhuna.
