PRESENTATION
The CTESP – Professional Higher Technical Course in Gerontology and Long-Term Care aims to train qualified senior technicians to perform different functions in the area of care, as well as to coordinate and lead teams and specialized services.
The course was designed together with market operators and corresponds to the most up-to-date requirements for preparing professionals in this area.
The target audience consists of young students looking for training with a future, versatile, humanistic and technically rigorous and professionals interested in retraining or increasing their level of training.
Studying at the Escola Superior de Saúde de Santa Maria is a different experience, where the student is the center of the learning process and the educational action aims to give them the best training with the greatest satisfaction, as well as a guarantee of greater employability.

DURATION
2 academic years | 4 semesters | 120 ECTS
INTERNSHIP DURATION
a) 800 hours of internship distributed over the two years of the course;
b) Possibility of carrying out an internship at the institution where he works, provided that conditions are met.
TARGET STUDENTS
a) Holders of a secondary education course or legally equivalent qualification;
b) Those who have been approved in the specially appropriate tests designed to assess the ability of those over 23 years of age to attend higher education, carried out, for the course in question, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 64/2006, of March 21st;
c) Holders of a technological specialization diploma, a higher professional technician diploma or a higher education degree, who wish to re-qualify themselves professionally.
NOTICE
This course is taught in Portuguese.
DEVELOPED SKILLS
a) Ability to lead and work in a multidisciplinary team in the area of gerontology and long-term care;
b) Capacity for social and health intervention, in a holistic and humane way, with the senior and long-term care population;
c) Capacity to manage basic health and social care needs of the senior population and long-term care;
d) Ability to promote active and healthy aging;
e) Critical and political thinking about the new social scenario of aging.

PARTNERSHIP
Students of the CTeSP of Gerontology and Long-Term Care, after completing the course, can also enroll in the Degrees of the Higher Institute of Social Service of Porto (ISSSP).

Possibility of awarding a Scholarship up to 100% of the Fee.
