PRESENTATION

The Master’s course in Physiotherapy in Neuro-Muscle-Skeletal Conditions is a professional training program that aims to promote the integration of knowledge and practices applied to neuro-musculoskeletal conditions, based on person-centred practice and practice-based evidence.

The development of various skills of the physiotherapist, namely the clinical profile, employee, manager, communicator, leader, promoter of professionalism and academic, is also a core objective of the course.

The aim is thus to develop a more reflective practice, with a multidimensional character, which, in addition to improving the skills of the physiotherapist, also allows for the improvement of health care provided, and thus a more effective and efficient health promotion and prevention.

The development of critical thinking and creativity is also aimed at.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY CYCLE

Throughout the study cycle, the student must develop specific knowledge, skills, and competences, in the autonomous physiotherapy practice of excellence, both in rehabilitation and in health promotion. Specifically, the following pedagogical objectives were established:

a) To know the most prevalent neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions and their relationship with fundamental science;
b) To develop and apply an assessment and intervention plan in Physiotherapy adjusted to a person with a neuro-musculo-skeletal condition, in different stages of rehabilitation and in different contexts;
c) To develop reflective, multidimensional, person-centred practices, informed by evidence;
d) To develop an efficient practice of recording in physiotherapy;
e) To develop the ability to critically analyse scientific evidence;
f) To develop skills related to entrepreneurship and management in physiotherapy;
g) To develop critical thinking and creativity.

The neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions addressed during the course reflect injuries to various tissues, from joint injuries (e.g. hip osteoarthritis), bone (e.g. Colles fracture), muscle (e.g. hamstring rupture, epicondylitis tendinopathy), ligament (e.g. injury to the anterior cruciate ligament), meniscal, nervous (e.g. thoracic outlet syndrome), as well as non-specific conditions (e.g. low back pain of non-specific origin). For each of them, the person’s context may vary the physiotherapist’s plan of action.
